The short version
Kharcha Rupaiya works entirely on your phone. It has no server, no account and no analytics, and it does not have the Android internet permission, so it cannot send your data anywhere.
What the app reads
With your permission it reads the SMS inbox (READ_SMS) and new SMS as they arrive (RECEIVE_SMS) to track your spending and budget.
- Bank, card, UPI and bill SMS: amounts, merchants, account endings, balances and due dates.
- Personal messages from people (phone numbers) are skipped and never stored.
- One-time passwords and promotional SMS are skipped and never stored.
What is stored, and where
- Only money SMS that produced a transaction, due or balance, the records made from them, and what you add or edit.
- Data stored on the device is encrypted (SQLCipher with a key held by the Android Keystore).
- Pro users: SMS from unknown senders that look like bank phishing are kept as warnings, so you can see what was flagged.
Sharing
No data collected. No data shared with third parties. All processing happens on the device. SMS and financial info are read on the device only and never transmitted.
Purchases
Pro is bought through Google Play. Google handles the payment; the app only receives Play's confirmation that you own Pro.
Backups and exports
Only when you ask, the app writes a backup (encrypted with your passphrase) or an export to a file you choose through the Android file picker. Where that file goes is up to you.
Deleting your data
Uninstalling the app deletes all of its data. Backups exist only where the user saves them. See delete your data.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
